Rebecca Ernst

Rebecca is an Associate in the firm’s Estates Department, where she specializes in estate litigation, guardianship litigation, power of attorney disputes, and capacity litigation. With a background in social work and gerontology, Rebecca brings a compassionate, client-centered approach to her practice, recognizing the complex relationships and sensitive family dynamics involved in the matters she takes on. She is committed to securing the best possible outcomes for her clients through personalized and thoughtful representation.

Before joining Walker Head Lawyers, Rebecca gained valuable experience with the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee and the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly. She holds Juris Doctor and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Windsor, and a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Cognitive Science from York University. Rebecca also holds a diploma in Social Service Work from Seneca College, specializing in Gerontology.

Rebecca is passionate about education and community engagement. She guest lectures at Durham College and Seneca College, focusing on consent and capacity issues with future community mental health professionals. She also offers a workshop on navigating diminishing capacity, providing essential insights to those working and living with vulnerable populations.

Rebecca was called to the Bar in 2016 and is a member of the Durham Region Law Association and Legal Aid Ontario’s Consent and Capacity Board panel.
